Put Your Running Hat On And Watch What Happens

Running saved my life many times. I used to do athletics at school additionally to volleyball, and since I was very fast, my coach would always put me for sprints and to start relays. I was never a long distance runner though. In 2004, when I got my dog, Bailey, I figured that jogging regularly would be a good way to provide her with sufficient exercise, so we started running together. First I really hated it as I was having trouble catching my breath. But I was getting better and better, and after only couple of months my body adjusted and I actually started enjoying it. Soon it became our routine, our time together; it also enabled me to just let my thoughts flow or let everything go while getting some fresh air. Additionally I noticed positive changes on my body, so the overall benefits were fantastic.
During the last decade there were many situations when I felt down; whether they were obstacles in business, difficult situations in my animal shelter, relationship troubles, and I just thought I was at the end of my rope, it was always running that helped me get over it. My approach was “when I feel upset, I literally run it out”. Firstly, your mind is not able to do two things at once and so when you concentrate on running, you can’t concentrate on what’s wrong in other areas of your life. And even if those thoughts cross your mind several times, you simply start feeling different energy within, you breathe regularly and become more and more powerful with every single step. Your whole chemistry is changing and it’s becoming positively addictive. Secondly, as your brain is getting so much more oxygen and blood is pumping intensively in your system, you might start seeing many things from a different angle. I can’t even count how many times I figured things out while wearing my sneakers down.
However there’s a big difference between jogging for relax and jogging for burning calories. That little difference in thinking creates big difference in results, and those are either clear and strong spirit or obsession and exhaustion. It will also cause a different feeling about it: either you’ll hate it because you feel like you have to do it, or you’ll enjoy it because you know it does you an overall good.
You don’t need to become a marathoner. Thirty minutes two times a week is absolutely sufficient. Ideally try to go to nature so that you don’t ruin your hips on a concrete, also because it’s calmer environment that will enable you to relax your mind. Forget your music player: notice trees, grass, flowers and birds singing, concentrate on regular breathing. If you can’t catch a breath, substitute run for swift walk or just stop for a minute. It’s not a race. You’re running for yourself and for a better feeling. Run for Fun! And if you really can’t enjoy it (after giving it at least two months shot), just choose any cardio you like: cycling, swimming, dancing, skiing, boxing, soccer, volleyball, basketball…it’s your choice. Because motion is all about e-motion:)
